Nokia Reveals Details On Pathway to Glory

Pathway to Glory for N-Gage
Nokia recently unveiled details on upcoming N-Gage title, Pathway to Glory, an action-packed strategy, multiplayer game. Set during World War II, players create and control their own platoon of soldiers to complete historically accurate missions and engage in hybrid real-time battle with other gamers from around the world. Players can either connect to collaborate and compete in a Global Battle Ground via the N-Gage Arena, or set up a local multiplayer game with up to six other players via Bluetooth wireless technology.

In The King of Fighters, our hero Kyo Kusanagi is invited to participate in the King of Fighters tournament, where the most brutal sluggers make their annual rendezvous to be crowned the ultimate master fighter. It's three-on-three tag team clash: when one of your team is down for the count, the next steps up to battle until your adversaries are completely defeated.

Oh SNAP! Multiplayer Java With Community Features Demoed at E3

Last week at E3, Nokia premiered the first multiplayer Java games based on its SNAP Mobile solution at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Developed together with Sega Mobile, the SNAP Mobile demonstration features multiplayer gaming for Java games, in addition to key community features such as friends lists, presence, and instant messaging. The Sega Mobile game demos are the first example of how SNAP Mobile brings the technology utilized in the N-Gage Arena gaming community to mass market Java terminals.

Renderware To Support N-Gage Platform

Nokia announced last week the start of a long-term collaboration with Criterion Software, the world's leading provider of middleware tools and technologies for game development, which will see RenderWare providing support for developers producing games for the N-Gage platform.

This announcement is critical in getting developer support for the N-Gage platform. According to Criterion Software, 1 in 4 console titles currently in pre-production or development are using RenderWare technology. RenderWare has been used in the development of some of the industry's hottest titles, including Sonic Heroes, kill.switch, and Grand Theft Auto: - Vice City.

The first Atari titles for the N-Gage are expected to be released in 2005 and will include Civilization, one of the most celebrated strategy games ever created and DRIV3R, the latest installment of Atari’s hugely successful driving adventure franchise. Civilization and DRIV3R for the N-Gage platform will combine familiar storylines and action with N-Gage multiplayer features to create a new spin for the brands.

Situated in the South Hall at area 1524, Nokia showcased 11 N-Gage games: Pathway to Glory, Pocket Kingdom: Own the World, Ashen, Crash Nitro Kart, The Sims Bustin' Out, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm, Call of Duty, Bomberman, Operation Shadow, Requiem of Hell, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004.

N-Gage.com exclusive interview Friday with Virginia McArthur, producer at Electronic Arts for The Sims: Bustin' Out. The Sims: Bustin' Out for the N-Gage is scheduled for release later this month and promises N-Gage exclusive features not found in other versions of The Sims, such as Bluetooth multiplayer.

Interestingly, what was thought to be one of the more difficult aspects of porting to the N-Gage turned out to be an asset, McArthur said. "Because the screen is vertical rather than wide, we anticipated user-interface challenges but it's actually more eloquent, and enabled us to come up with better ideas for it."

Based on the highly successful Elder Scrolls series by Bethesda Softworks, Shadowkey continues the epic story series that has thrilled RPG fans for more than 10 years.

The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey will be exclusive to the N-Gage platform and is expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2004.

Nokia and Activision announced last week that Spider-Man™ 2 will be released for the N-Gage game deck. Taking on the role of the famed super hero Spider-Man, mobile gamers will be able to swing, web sling and jump through four fully 3D levels, providing an amazingly dynamic environment on a handheld gaming device. Fifteen additional 2D levels provide a challenging arena to combat a wide range of enemies, including new enemy bosses such as the Lizard and Doc Ock that have their own unique attack moves. Web slinging gamers will also be able to upload their best performances to the N-Gage Arena, as well as unlock additional content for the game.
